Hanotiau & van den Berg

Hanotiau & van den Berg is a boutique law firm dedicated to international arbitration and litigation.

In 2001, Bernard Hanotiau, Albert Jan van den Berg, Pascal Hollander and other lawyers made a bold move: they set up a law firm dedicated to arbitration. At the time, arbitration was practiced in large full-service firms, generally as part of the activities of litigation departments, or by sole practitioners. Hanotiau & van den Berg was founded with a simple and clear idea: make arbitration a discipline in its own right, on a global scale, and with lawyers from many diverse jurisdictions.

Widely recognized as the very first international arbitration boutique worldwide, Hanotiau & van den Berg prides itself for having handled since its inception in 2001 close to 1,000 arbitration cases, with its lawyers acting as arbitrators and counsel (including in several of the largest arbitration cases).

After a successful and enriching partnership, the firm's partners have decided to embark on separate projects to reflect their visions on the evolving arbitration market. Since 1 September 2025, they pursue their activities within different structures, with the same passion and high standards in handling cases.
